Description
Mixed rough stones for rock tumbler – approx. 1 kg
With these mixed rough stones, you get a varied selection straight away to grind and polish yourself in a rock tumbler or polishing barrel. You can choose between two different mixes: Mix A and Mix B.
Both variants contain approx. 1 kg of natural rough stones in different colours, shapes, textures and sizes. Because each bag is filled separately from a mixed stock, the exact proportions of the different stone types may vary from bag to bag.
Mix A
Mix A is the original mixed stone blend and contains a selection including:
- red jasper
- blue quartz
- chalcedony
- rock crystal
- Australian agate
- tiger’s eye
- rose quartz
- aventurine
- amazonite
This mix consists of stones in different colours and sizes. It may also include smaller pieces of aventurine of approx. 1–3 cm. These smaller stones are an intentional part of the mix and, during tumbling, also help fill the spaces between larger stones.
Sodalite is not part of Mix A.
Mix B
Mix B has a different composition and contains several types of quartz and agate, supplemented with a few other stones. This mix may include, among others:
- rose quartz
- rock crystal
- Brazilian agate
- Australian agate
- Pakistani agate
- amethyst
- rutilated quartz
- zoisite with ruby
- red jasper
- sodalite
- amazonite
Mix B therefore has a different look from Mix A, including clear, pink, purple, green, blue and variably patterned stones.
The exact distribution varies from bag to bag. Not every listed stone type has to be present in each bag in the same quantity.
Different hardnesses
The stones in both mixes naturally differ slightly in hardness and structure. Most of them are relatively hard quartz, agate and jasper varieties.
Mix B also contains a small amount of sodalite. Sodalite is somewhat softer than quartz and agate, for example, and may therefore wear down more quickly during tumbling. Check the stones between the different grinding stages and remove any stone that wears down, becomes damaged or starts to crumble more quickly.
Why different sizes?
A good tumbler batch ideally consists of stones of different sizes. Smaller stones fill the spaces between larger stones and create more contact points during grinding.
That is why both mixes deliberately contain a combination of smaller and larger rough stones.
Suitable for the rock tumbler
The stones are intended to be ground and polished yourself in a rock tumbler or polishing barrel. Check the stones before each new grinding stage and remove heavily cracked, chipped or damaged pieces.
Make sure the barrel is filled adequately and, if necessary, use ceramic media to fill out the batch properly.
