Description
K80 for step 1 of stone polishing
A good polishing result starts with a good first grinding step. This K80 silicon carbide (SiC) is a coarse grinding grit for rounding, shaping and smoothing rough stones in a rock tumbler or polishing barrel.
In this first stage, sharp edges, protruding parts and larger irregularities are removed. Depending on the type of stone and the desired shape, this step may need to be repeated several times before the stones are ready for the next grit.
- Grit / product: K80
- Step: 1 of 5
- Application: coarse grinding and shaping
- Material: silicon carbide (SiC)
- Suitable for: rock tumblers and polishing barrels for suitable natural stones
Use in the 5-step process
K80 is the first grinding grit in the full polishing process. Check the stones after each treatment and repeat this step if sharp edges, pits or unwanted irregularities are still present. Once the stones are sufficiently rounded and smooth, you can move on to K220.
How much K80 do you need?
Dosage: the required amount depends on the barrel capacity, amount of stones and the type of machine. For an H&B TRM barrel with approximately 850 grams of stones and filler media, about 30 ml K80 per treatment can be used as a guideline.
Clean working between grinding steps
Clean the barrel, lid, stones and other tools thoroughly before moving on to K220. Any remaining coarse grit can cause scratches again in a later stage.
